Well thats the point. I used to work at a music venue. Here's how it goes:

-Live Nation pays the venue to rent the arena for certain amount of hrs. If the concert goes longer they have to pay the venue at a higher rate because that means more money the venue has to pay its staff workers.
- Live Nation has to pay insurance incase shyt happens and hiphop concerts have a higher insurance rate
-The venue pretty much makes its money from food and drink stands...and maybe 20-30% off of merchandise sales
- Live Nation has to market this concert to make sure they get the most tickets sales possible. Usually when they hit a little past that goal they say the show is "sold out". It would be hard for an artist to go on a country wide arena tour and have to promote it in every city it's in, even when they are not there.

Artist usually get a flat fee + % of merchandise.

Arenas cost a lot to rent.

It's like Wale is with Roc Nation but part of MMG.
