I agree that the album gets SO much better starting on track 6 or 7.
I think I finally put my finger on the first half---it reminds me of OJ Simpson (the collab project Madlib did with Guilty Simpson).
It's not that I don't like the beats on the first half, but the 2nd half seems way warmer, with more soul samples, better hooks, and the vibe seems to fit the rapping better. Like that Peroxide joint early on in the album. The song isn't really bad or anything, but the hook just seems really weird and out of place. A lot of the first half is like that to me. Joints like Finer Things, The Strip, Drive In, The Buzz, Burgundy Whips, and Belly Full just seem a lot better than the first half.
it almost sounds like 2 albums.
I'm on track 4, I dont see the weak first half at all. This is fire
Damn then you'll love it because it picks up steam big time in a couple more tracks.
