Explain?

Meek is past the point in his career to be worried about numbers
Music drops friday, 1st week sales are only accounting for friday, saturday and maybe some of sunday's sales/streams.

Music drops tuesday, 1st week sales are tuesday - sundays sales, so more days. Plus since there's more time for the music to catch on, there's a bit of a boost on the weekends for whatever's the favorite songs on the project.

The ross and meek album dropped on the 10th and we're already talking projected sales. He's saying if it dropped on the 7th this number would higher.

I agree with your 2nd point tho, but this is contributing to low sales in hip hop across the board not just ross and meek

That's not how this works. The amount of days counted in the week doesn't change. Projections are just projections because the majority of sales of the first week are in the first few days so they can predict based on that. No matter what day it comes out. They do the same with movies.

The projection still gives the temperature check on whether or not it's a "hot" project

More time in the oven makes the projection larger which in turn makes the project look more successful, and if it looks more successful it often is because hip hop fans are popularity driven

See my above post

He's saying that the projection would be higher had it dropped earlier in the week

Is he right? Remains to be seen

...so why did he/they drop it on friday?

if they own they shyt don't they decide when to release it?

They afraird of whoever dropped/will drop on tuesday?

if they don't give two fukks about numbers, then they shouldn't care when it drops.
That's a great question

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read streaming services go through a submission process and then you have to wait X amount of days for clearance before it releases, and the system that they use designates it to release on a certain day after it clears, and I think that system forces it to be friday

But I might be wrong on that

You’re going to get most of the listens within 24-48 hours of release. That’s what the projections are based on.

The only thing that could change the trajectory is if a song becomes a hit or meme these days

Music sales are all about how large and engaged your fanbase is these days. Lead singles don’t even matter anymore

In a way a lead single can hurt sales nowadays. Being by the time the album out u not really gonna listen to that song as much.

I know Ross and Meek are bigger names that you’d expect to do “more” but selling 30k independently is pretty good in today’s market.
If they tour, they'll easily do better than Lil Baby or NBA Youngboy or any rapper with those big first week #s :sas2:

Facts. In today’s market where music sales doesn’t generate the same amount of money, being independent and having a core fanbase that will always come to your shows is actually more sustainable than being a new popular artist on a major label.
