I dunno why rap as an art form gets held to a standard that the other art forms don't. violence in the community happens and people turn around and blame rap music, that's weird and flawed to me. I also don't understand why people think a rapper that raps about violence can't/shouldn't be a BLM advocate, I see it too often here, posters calling rappers hypocrites merely because the content of their music does not "match" their social commentary/stance on issues.

Maybe its cause I tend to look at rap/hip-hop firstly as entertainment and art. It was always weird to me when blogs and newspapers tried to shift culpability for real life violent incidents to videogames, and the same applies to rap for me. Granted, there's always the element of it potentially influencing a certain attitude but that's where parenting and society as a whole have a bigger role to play (and where the guilt should be placed that). Gotta teach your kids/people to separate art/fiction/entertainment from real life and consequences and impact of decisions, right from wrong, etc. For me Meek shouldn't have to change the content of his artistry for me to take his social stances or positive messaging outside of the music seriously.

With that said, I'm also not against rappers taking new directions if that's how/what they feel like doing, I just never quite understood why people are so fixated on having nikkas rap about unicorns and rainbows for them to be able to make a positive impact.

That's cool, but then why even release DC4 the way it is then?

He's basically saying, "I got y'all later on that, but let me just get this last one off real quick before I stop." I don't know, if you want to take a real stance, maybe you should start that immediately. How do you schedule being righteous? "After this one, I'll do better." LOL!!
He still young, people grow and improve but nobody perfect b. Its levels no pun intended

some artists really take hip hop seriously though, some never compromised their art for the dollar.

lol only to focus on watch brands....

And I did catch the addendum (extreme) violence, which could be potentially hilarious as a mitigating factor, as we debate what constitutes extreme....

'In the dope spot blowing out the pack/catch him in the block, blow him off the map/I got a .50 cal close the casket/t catch you in traffic really ya close ya chapter'

well, in all fairness, he's referring to only one man, and made NO references to torture....

Just like Master P

Master of lyrical cleanup

Or Jim Jones replacing ''my nikka'' with ''my Obama'' after Obama got elected

Jim Jones: Obama is the new N-word, but in a good way

Or Snoop changing from gangsta rap to peace and love rasta...right before going back to crippin

From Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion: the reinvention of a gangster rapper

Rappers say anything. Forgive me for being skeptical.

plus as much as fans dont want to admit it they are the fiends addicted to this negativity
myself included .......if every rapper stopped relelasing gangsta or trap shoot em up music .........people would be fiendin badly

so do you blame the pusher or the user?

there are some weeks i just listen to other genre except rap
reggae, soul, metal, punk rock, jazz anything but rap

its hard to rap along with
gucci and then turn up to work in a corporate office

Great point and its the response you should have whenever says I'm going to stop doing ____. However dc4 might already be finished or near finished.

Meek has proven he has no discipline, so I won't hold him to this as I already see the outcome.

Still waiting on DC4 date tho, will def check it.
