I don't necessarily mind the 3D though so I'm not one of "those" Sonic fans, I just wish they'd stop trying to reinvent the damn wheel every time out and you're right, the 3D have missed more than hit and I think a part of that is because they keep overthinking shyt by "allowing" us to play as Amy, Tails, Knuckles, etc. as opposed to just keeping it Sonic. No diss to anyone who loves playing as those characters but I don't want to switch perspectives and do all the crazy shyt, just let me play as Sonic that's all I need. Its a simple formula

That's been the last couple of Sonic games tho -
Sonic: Lost World - you only play as Sonic
Sonic Generations - you only play as Sonic
Sonic Colors - you only play as Sonic
Sonic Unleashed - you only play as Sonic (though Sonic is a werehog half the time)
And I'd say all of those games were good. Really, most of the 3D Sonic games haven't been bad, the only really awful one was Sonic 2006. The Sonic Adventure games were good, Sonic Heroes was average, Sonic Unleashed was half good (the daytime stages), and Sonic Generations was extremely good. I've heard that Sonic Colors and Sonic: Lost World are good too, but I don't have a Wii U so I haven't played them.
Personally I don't mind playing as other characters as long as they play similar to Sonic. Now if we get some lame gameplay change (like fishing stages or treasure hunting) then

See, that shyt right there upset me because the parts of the game as Sonic were dope but then that night time shyt..nah. And Generations is dope too but its gimmick and while it appeals to my nostalgia it's still built around a gimmick as opposed to just being focused on gameplay. I can't speak on Lost World or Colors so I won't front like I can. I just want a straight Sonic game where I can shoot through, not have to worry about switching between this character and that character, old sonic and new sonic, new sonic or scary ugly beast sonic, collect my chaos emeralds and give Robotnik that work
