This is a popular argument the developers make. The thing is the OG Sonic games were very short too, and no one had a problem with that. People continue to play and replay these games today. Devs gotta get out of the mindset that games have to be 20 hours to be good. If the game is great, length won't matter. People will replay games over and over if it's fun. The new Ratchet and Clank game can be completed in like 4 hours and it stays in my gaming rotation.
A good game is a good game. I felt both of you on that one but I tend to side with you now that you verbalized it better than I could. I think gamers are smart enough to know not every game is going to a 10-20 hour campaign; as long as they have fun with it and it's dope, length shouldn't be an issue. The Sonic team needs to do what they do best. Sonic was never designed to be an epic game
I feel both of you on that, but let's be reality - if Sega came out with the most epic, fun Sonic game ever, but it only took four hours to beat - people would bytch about it and complain about not getting their money's worth. Especially in Sonic's case since the Sonic fanbase is already pretty much impossible to please.
IMO, the best bet is probably to do the Sonic Adventure thing and have a hub world between levels. That way it would give players something to do between levels and lengthen the game without having to insert some unwanted gameplay change.
