Second-round mock | Round 1 winners and question marks | Best available on Day 2
In taking a look at the second round, I'm looking more at sensible fits and proper value. Call it a mock, but the actionable intel at this point isn't great because teams are evaluating and looking at different options until the last seconds. As I put this together, be certain that every team with a second-round pick is still engaging in an internal debate about who to select. There are no certainties.
A couple things I see off the bat:
1. There are at least a handful of players I would not have considered a reach in Round 1. Plenty of impact to be had.
2. Obviously, the quarterbacks are a huge storyline going into Day 2.
With that said, let's take a look at the possibilities. And remember folks, at this point we're talking possibilities, not projections.
Notes: Cleveland Browns (2012 supplemental draft) and New Orleans Saints (forfeited due to bounty penalties) do not own 2013 second-round picks. Because the Chiefs and Jaguars tied with the worst record, they alternate picking first each round.
33. Jacksonville Jaguars
Matt Barkley, QB, USC
Not sold on this, but he's a player who can push the starter now.
34. San Francisco 49ers (from Kansas City)
Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford
Replaces Delanie Walker and familiar to the coaching staff.
35. Philadelphia Eagles
Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia
Chip Kelly gets a great thrower with underrated athleticism to develop behind Michael Vick.
36. Detroit Lions
Robert Alford, CB, S.E. Louisiana
Detroit is desperate for a corner, and he'll thrive on the perimeter.
37. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland)
Manti Te'o, LB, Notre Dame
They have a bigger need for an OLB, but Te'o is better now than Rey Maualuga.
38. Arizona Cardinals
Margus Hunt, DE, SMU
Athletic freak who could develop into a 5-technique in their system.
39. New York Jets
Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse
I think it would be Geno Smith if he fell here, but Nassib is also a possible future at QB.
40. Tennessee Titans
Robert Woods, WR, USC
Great route-runner, great hands and underrated as a big-play threat.
41. Buffalo Bills
Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee
They really need a speed option at receiver. Here's your guy.
42. Oakland Raiders (from Miami)
Tank Carradine, DE, Florida St.
Good value here. They got their corner, now they find a pass-rusher.
43. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
John Jenkins, DT, Georgia
Absolutely need another defensive tackle next to Gerald McCoy.
44. Carolina Panthers
Jonathan Cyprien, Florida International, S
They need a safety, and I'm really high on Cyprien.
45. San Diego Chargers
Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas St.
Versatile LB with great athleticism. Fills an immediate need.
46. Buffalo Bills (from St. Louis)
Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama
Takes pressure off C.J. Spiller, but a home run threat himself. Also helps with short-yardage situations.
47. Dallas Cowboys
Shamarko Thomas, S, Syracuse
They need a safety and take advantage of a deep class. Thomas is a starter.
48. Pittsburgh Steelers
D.J. Swearinger, S, South Carolina
They're really old at safety, and Swearinger is ready to play.
49. New York Giants
Sio Moore, LB, UConn
They get a much-needed linebacker who could start in Week 1.
50. Chicago Bears
Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State
I have DT as a need for them, and Hankins is a good value at this spot.
51. Washington Redskins
Kevin Minter, LB, LSU
He can start next to London Fletcher and eventually take over for him.
52. New England Patriots (from Minnesota)
Keenan Allen, WR, Cal
Great route-runner with strong hands. Could thrive once he learns the system.
53. Cincinnati Bengals
Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin
They need any ounce of explosiveness they can get at RB.
54. Miami Dolphins (from Indianapolis)
Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
Desperate need at corner, and Banks has proven ability to cover.
55. Green Bay Packers
Cornelius Washington, OLB, Georgia
Another pass-rushing OLB, Washington could split time with Nick Perry.
56. Seattle Seahawks
Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
One of their few needs is at defensive tackle. Short will provide value this late in the second.
57. Houston Texans
Menelik Watson, OT, Florida State
Their zone-blocking scheme is a good fit for Watson, and the Texans need a right tackle.
58. Denver Broncos
Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&&M
Love his potential to give them another pass-rusher.
59. New England Patriots
Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State
A capable corner, he gives them much-needed depth at that position.
60. Atlanta Falcons
Khaseem Greene, LB, Rutgers
He's going to be a fantastic 4-3 weakside LB at the NFL level.
61. San Francisco 49ers
Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
Really good value here. He'll help in the NFC West arms race.
62. Baltimore Ravens
Terron Armstead, OT, Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Tackle is a need, and Armstead has the athleticism to become a starter on the left side.
