I had the album when it dropped in 08...I believe it was a Japan only release. Unfortunately that's probably 3-4 computers since then and it's in storage.
Marley Marl produced the whole thing, had Masta Ace, BDK, Kool G, Biz, I think Mc Lyte, I think Doug E Fresh...shyt a ton of others. Very dope album.
The official story behind it was that it was somehow salvaged from a flood or some shyt that occurred back in 88 and destroyed the office/studio of Top Shelf Records. And these recordings were somehow salvaged and released 20 years later.
A very cool story, but the reality is that it was recorded in 07/08, they just made up that story to give it some mystique. The reason why people knew it was a recent recording is because there were references to things that weren't around if it was recorded in 88. Further, some of the rappers voices were very similar to recent recordings rather than what they sounded like in 88. BDK being one of the most obvious examples. Also, there is no record of "Top Shelf Records" anywhere.
Anyway get your hands on it, it's really good.
