Another thing I like about Melle Mel is there's a certain degree of purity to a lot of his shyt, some other artists I think that have this is Slick Rick, Last Emperor, Brother Ali, Grand Puba etc... He isn't afraid to just do some positive shyt, have fun or just some fly braggadocio shyt...

it is about sound tho bro

they were inspired by the creators? no shyt

when you have real impact as an mc u leave your prints. jay got clones, nas got clones. ghostface? kane? rakim? em? biggie? staccs? pun? g rap? etc...

nobody sounds like Mel cuz he's not as good. so he gets overlooked. what late 80s to mid 90s killer he could compete with. that matters to me because that's how we judge rank in this game. and I know the dudes I named above could.

Silly ass posting breh.

Mel set the template for ALL concious rap. All of it.

KRS, Pac, Face, Cube, Chuck D etc.

Are all his offspring.

No Pac or none of them nikkas would exist without Mel dum dum...you talking bout birthing styles...what about content? And Mel is outspitting all them nikkas anyway...NONE are fukkin' with his pen game...it's just his flow & delivery is dated.

It's truth Mel birthed all them dudes, even Pac and Cube, you can hear it if you are studious about the game. Even Face, I guarantee if you ask Face he would say Melle Mel and them were an inspiration, and I know K-Rino feels the same, and these are all great and legendary MC's so Mel's place is more than solidified in history.

And like @Iron Chin Wilder Mel's pen game is phenomenal. Underrated, some people seem to completely ignore or downplay the poetic or potent aspects of lyricism. In my opinion why Pac is underrated too.

In regards to flow, personally I feel like what Mel did was timeless, it's true to my knowledge he never experimented hugely with for instance a rapid Twista type flow, but did he need to? Probably not, he made it plain and was effective and created classic timeless songs on the level nearly everyone isn't approaching. Not many artists fukk with Mel's best shyt....

I didn't even see this post prior and said the exact same thing and mentioned Face. You're completely right, they would all tell you that too, KRS, Pac, Cube, Chuck have all mentioned Mel like that too, and Face probably has but I don't know for sure. But being influenced by ANY of the aforementioned and MANY others is all birthed from Mel...

His flow caught up with the rest of the game in the late 80's...but his best work was done when he was using that robotic early 80's flow.

I look at shyt from a talent standpoint

he can't fucc wit his successors. even the ones lower on the totem pole are better. if this were 2k he'd be a 77 and yet he's expected to be respected. I'm 30 I never fucced wit or heard him coming out of a car in detroit. he's a Pioneer but this thing evolved. nas and rakim don't sound like no fuccin melle Mel either. I'm not dissing y'all gassing a nikka that ain't Ali Vegas nice wit the pen.

I'm sorry but you're clueless.

I posted a song of his recorded in 08. Please post a song made since then that even remotely touches that song lyrically.

I'll wait.

Listen dumbass, your favorite rapper's, favorite rapper's, favorite rapper's, favorite rapper is Melle Mel.

Hip hop is the ONLY form of music where I've ever seen its fans completely shyt on their forefathers and the ones that built something for them. Doesn't happen in ANY other genre. Ungrateful and entitled smfh.

Some of yall are fukking idiots for real.
