When I watched their games, he just wasn't a good fit. ISO ball is pretty much his game. In this game, you have to be able to take ppl off the dribble (1 or 2 dribbles) and you're scoring or pulling up. He slowed the paced on offense with his ISO mid-post game (which isn't a bad thing, but most of his action came from that set-up), but some of that falls on the coach as well. I saw PG coming off a lot of screens that were set by Adams, which PG used to get off his 3 pointer shot or he would curl the screen and set up for the 15-12ft jumper. I would have liked to see more off ball-screens set for Melo. The movement for Melo in the offense was bad. He was either in the corner, standing, watching or he was playing ISO ball mid-post. That's not going to work for 90% of the teams in the NBA, you have to be used in all 4 phases of sets within the offense.

1. ISO ball (mid-post)

2. Pick N Roll "45" 4 and 5 pick n roll set (Him and Adams at the top of the key, or corner iso with them 2, playing 2 on 2. etc. I didn't even see a lot of "14" Pick n Roll (1 Russ and 4 Melo) Pick n Roll action.

3. Off-ball screens (Adams set screens to free open a player for jump shots) Pin-downs, flares, double flares etc. (away from the ball action)

4. One on One (perimeter action)

Pretty much this. Me, personally, I don't have a problem with ISO, because they're all isolation players and he can play off the ball as a catch-n-shoot, but not the way they were using him. They had him as a set shooter primarily, and his post ups were plays in which they struggled for 5+ secs to get him the ball in the post. for him to get into his triple threat rhythm. If they were gonna post him, he should've got the ball earlier in the clock - not "lets try to get Melo a post up play". And him camping out in the perimeter is a no-no.

I would've loved to see he and Adams work the PnR or Pick-n-pull up in the high post - they never used that. They also should've reversed it and used Paul George or Melo as the ball handler and Westbrook in the post from time to time. Melo still has about 2 solid years left as a contributor, but he's not these players 3D generic players or these stretch 4s. He's an old school 3, which there probably isn't a place for unless it's a team like San An or perhaps he could fit in Portland.

OKC had a shytty coach and a chaotic (lack of) system. Paul George was just as trash but he remained aggressive, and he's more athletic.

He just has a terrible attitude, doesn't make other people better or mesh with anyone and is not motivated to adapt his game as he ages

i'll give you attitude, but players have had their best seasons playing along side of him, so that doesn't mesh or make anyone better is a falsely painted narrative. His game can't adapt because it doesn't translate to today's game. He's not having any more troubles than Dirk has had adjusting.

Say, what now?

:dwillhuh:

Did you forget that Dirk led a team to a title at roughly the same age?

If I was Melo.I'd try to finesse a 3 year contract out of OKC...Decline the 28 million for next season on the condition that OKC agrees to a new 3yr/60m deal.

At this point,I can see OKC trading S.Adams.The payroll for this season is 134m....If Melo picks up his 28m option, and they sign PG to a 30m per yr contract,OKC's payroll will be 140+ million next season....I don't see OKC paying 15-20m dollars in luxury tax.

It’s the truth... you gotta feed players like Melo and George.... you can’t be Westbrook ball hogging

Why does everybody ignore the beginning of the season when they were all getting 16-17 shots per game. Westbrook was sharing the ball and all three were shooting below 40%. When that was happening the team was barely 500 if not below. The team didn't take off until they cut down Melo's shots and Westbrook took over and started playing more like last year.

I see everyone talking about his offense and completely hand-waving the fact that he's a complete abomination on the defensive end of the court unable to guard 3s or 4s anymore.

If he played 0 minutes in the Jazz series the Thunder might have won.

Carmelo Anthony is one of the greatest basketball players of all time in my opinion. I think the NBA was trying to stop Carmelo from taking LeBron's shine during their respective NBA careers.
One of the stupidest post in Coli history. So every year the NBA tries to stop an up and coming player to save Lebron? Levels to the stupidity.

Linsanity is more memorable than anything Melo did with the Knicks lol.
Foh. Easter Game against Chicago, his 60 point game, his play throughout our 54 win Knickstape year, several game winning shots, leading us past the first round for the first time in over a decade is better than 2 weeks of Jeremy Lin averaging 20 points with 5 turnovers.
