We had high draft picks and I saw what we accomplished with Gallo , frye and sweetney it didn't work .
A couple of things:
1) We were still over the cap from bad contracts when we drafted Frye and Sweetney
2) We used gallo to TRADE FOR CARMELO ANTHONY! What about this are you NOT understanding? We cleared the cap and drafted players (wilson/gallo/mozgov) and they ALLOWED US TO TRADE for Carmelo. That's how it's done. You draft the star, or you acquire the star. We acquired.
You guys talkin like we had no draft picks at all.
For a while we didn't, and we don't again this season.
That's fine if you want to try that tactic again
Because it worked?
I don't the odds are Bad same way oden didn't Pan out
Dog, are you saying we shouldn't draft players... "cuz oden"? The Blazers are good without oden because they Drafted Lamarcus and Dame Lillard and Batum. The Spurs are still eating off good drafts from 2 decades ago. OKC drafted Ibaka, KD, Westbrook and Reggie Jackson... The Pacers drafted Paul George/HIbbert/Lance. The talent comes out of the draft before it goes anywhere else. Now you don't trust it? You'd rather lock up melo till he's 36???
and we just missed stat and curry it's that easy .
Stat? We missed him?
Don't act like melo = bad financial decisions of the 2000s wen we had more success with melo than the team from 2001 on.
My point is having melo till he's 36 is in the same mold as the decisions that crippled the team through the 2000's. You don't pay an aging vet for work he did for you in the past. You pay a player for what he can do in the future. Your'e setting up to pay melo almost $10 Million PER YEAR more than LeBron makes. Think about that for a moment. Is he even worth EQUAL PAY to LeBron? ("no" is the answer)
Your making it seem like signing melo is a bad decision
No. I'm saying quite explicitly.
but your basing it off completely different teams and scenarios
No. I'm basing it off the history of sport and athletes. All of the history points to a player showing a steep decline at 33-36. And you want to pay him 27, 28, 29 million in those years. Nah. Nah, son.
so disagree if you want but don't condescend breh
I'm going to condescend to every smart-dumb motherfukker on this board that ignores basic principles of time and math. You're one of them, so welcome to it.
, you were already wrong trying to act like wade wasn't on the heat then opted out and resigned
No. That's exactly what I said. They had nobody. They signed Wade, signed LeBron, signed Bosh. You want to look at it like "Well they always had Wade" Nope. All three of them signed new deals that offseason. FOR LESS MONEY. Crazy... that sounds like EXACTLY what I'm advocating for. If Wade had demanded the max-max... they would not have given it to him. OR they would have, and they would not have won the championships. It's that simple.
and act like pierce wasn't a top talent when they teamed him with the big 3 ,
He and KG were at the back ends of their primes. The celtics had just slogged through a long season of losses with young pieces on the roster like Al Jefferson. The converted those young pieces and picks into Kevin Garnett.
Who - both, by the way - took shorter deals, for less money to help their teams out, and give them flexibility. Crazy right? Is Melo better than prime KG? Better than Prime Pierce? Maybe. Is he 10-15 Million Dollars per year, better? Probably not.
but even that was the old CBA where it was easier to trade players
Players get traded every day, b.
