why doesn't her family just pay for her to come back to canada, she's canadian, healthcare in canada is free, even if her ohip expired once it's renewed it would be retroactive.

Not true. Coverage would only start after the 3 month waiting period non-retroactively. Except in extenuating circumstances listed here, which she doesn't fall under.

I work in one of the biggest hospital networks in Canada not speaking out of my ass.

I've seen it happen many times as I used to be the finance business partner for AR aka handing the books, you just contact the ministry and they will retroactive the coverage to that date.

When the syrian rush in canada happaned and they didn't have ohip yet nor had IFH coverage, it was just contacting the ministry and they would change the retroactive date.

But by all means breh you know more than me

Bro, that is one of the extenuating circumstances listed in the link. Those are refugees. Melyssa would not be accepted as a refugee.

I'm not saying I know more than you, the Government of Ontario lists who gets immediate coverage in clear terms, not me

They even tell you to buy private insurance until your coverage starts. There would be no point in doing that if your coverage applies retroactively anyway lol.

Yes, healthcare is free but from what I read, subject to being skewed, the patients to physicians is high in Canada. To get seen in time, a lot of Canada just pay the tab and come down.
