It's all context dependent of course.....Some (male) friends I have no problem texting back and forth with, due to proximity, or convenience issues, but, yeah I have friends that want to have semi in depth conversations via text, I don't see it as entirely feminine, although it may come off that way, it's more like many people use text as their main form of communication, and don't think about it outside those terms....I'd prefer to just see you in person, or at least on the phone, rather then 'arguing' or have an actual discussion via text.....
Texting 'K' always comes off feminine as fukk to me, and I never do it, group mms with a bunch of men texting emojis about New Years Eve or Christmas is pretty shameful too....
As far as being neurotic about texting, I prefer my Mom and Dad not to text me much, Mom only does for logistics usually....Dad....this dude emotionally constrained ass was texting me from the hospital, when he was recovering from surgery, in these very brief businesslike updates, awkward as fukk, like the twitter feed of a news anchor reporting on a story.....Honestly a lot of texting for people is fairly self important, if you have time to type these sprawling text messages you probably have time for a 5 minute conversation, logically speaking. Also, for many it's much easier to communicate potentially uncomfortable or just be a little 'braver' and more confident via text, then on the phone, and certainly in person. I am sure it's something others notice, texting has at the same time a very personal, and impersonal element to it.
