I'm speaking specifically to young black males. You do NOT have to mess with rap music.

As a black male myself, I understand that rap music is pretty much our entire identity. We get our cues on how to walk, talk, dress and behave from rap music.

Rap Music is literally our biggest representation worldwide and if YOU, a black man don't fit into the stereotypes set forth by rap, you're often ridiculed.

Ridiculed by not only other black people, but the rest of the world. Cacs will look at you funny if you don't look or talk like these Minstrel Show rappers. You are EXPECTED to behave, walk , talk and dress a certain way as a black man.

What I'm ultimately getting at without being too long-winded , is that it's ok to not like it. As a black male you are expected to not only like it, but if you listen to anything else, you're looked at weird.

We all know what the vast majority of the content in rap is about (drugdealing, gangbanging, shooting at opps, sipping lean, extreme materialism, fukking random hoes, etc) but if this type of content doesn't resonate with your spirit....it's ok to avoid it.

You know if your spirit rejects something and if your spirit rejects the negativity of rap music....don't listen to it , and better yet....don't even PRETEND to like it.

If you know that the lifestyle promoted and glorified in rap doesn't align with the type of person that your parents raised or are trying to raise.....don't try to force yourself to listen to it to fit in.

I know peer pressure is hard but be your own person. Listen to what appeals to who you really are. If your friends don't like what you listen to in the whip....they can walk. If your friends make fun of you for listening to different types of music ...their not really your friends.

Most of this rap music is PURPOSELY DESIGNED to groom your personality for prison or an early death anyways. Before you know it, you're sagging your pants, putting tattoos all over your face and body, cursing/ using the Nword in every sentence and drunk off weed and liquor all the time. . That's what they want. This music is spiritual.

Black men....it's perfectly ok to not fukk with rap music.
If the "young black males" you trying to reach post here....it's already too late Officer Colvin lol.....

Maybe try and reach the younger ones

Ok:mjlol:

nikkas really need to learn that are are different subgenres of rap. There are many examples of rap being a great source of music to lift you up and empower you in a way.

Nothing wrong with bumping some ignorant shyt from time to time as well. Been listening to rap all my life and I’ve never thought about killing another black man or woman:yeshrug: but I do know that people are different than me in that aspect
This ngga doused water all over a potentially potent thread

OP is right. However, you and the rest of this forum are not the audience for this message . When you want to make generational changes you need to aim at elementary school kids, literally. Maybe even younger than that.

Bc people who are older it’s in your DNA you’ve ingested all the fukkery for too long. Certain things have been normalized.

Ie I saw a live of PNB and it was sad bc from afar I’m pretty sure he’s not a street cat, yet in the live he was essentially playing that part. Why? Bc to be in black culture you gotta act a certain way, bc rap says so

The potential for Rap music is still there. It shouldnt be something that we give on up. Clearly its one of our most powerful tools as a community.

We just need to use it properly.
It’s entertainment

Drill rap ain’t music it’s dudes talking over beats threatening “opps” & talking bout bodies they caught

Ice cube death certificate is a whole album about consciousness directed towards black males

Love Kingfish. Seen him live twice and I’m not even into the blues like that (despite being from Memphis).

Def feel breh who left it alone when Dolph died…but there’s enough grown man, reality based rap out now, you don’t even have to stick to the drilled out low vibrational music. I can see a lot of this popular stuff being really harmful to the young and impressionable. Glad I was grown as hell by the time drill really took hold

You from memphis and don't like blues? Man is operating in the upside down world

I still havent been able to catch him live. his stratocaster tone is :ohlawd:

that's the thing, the people that sit on her complaining about drill rap, listen to the shyt religiously. they follow all these random fly-by-night "rappers". They know all their little crew names. They know all the current drill rapper beefs. They know all the lyrics. Then get on TLR projecting.

Rap music has many different sub genres the same way Rock music do. I understand where OP is coming from but you can’t box all Rap music in like that and claim it is all toxic. A Kendrick Lamar, J Cole and Tyler The Creator song is vastly different compared to a Lil Durk, Fivio Foreign and Da Baby song.

This.
