Same here on the East Coast, but that was back in the 80's. It wasn't until recently that theory was challenged.

I was under the impression there were only theories as to what killed the dinosaurs.

In school I remember reading about a meteorite and as a result of that there was climate change and that killed the dinosaurs.

yep. I remember being told that no one really knew what happened to the dinosaurs, but that the meteor thing was a leading theory. and that was the 80's...
