Not classic albums, but classic or near-classic songs.

I don't think I've ever seen a region so dependent on just one producer.

Let's start with Future:

Dude is garbage almost every time he gets on the studio. All of his albums are garbage on varying degrees. Even his work with Metro is more often :russell:than not. But when Metro hands him a fire beat? It usually ends up being a top 10 Future song. Without Karate Chop, I Serve the Base, Mask Off, Big Rings (6 God help?) he would have nothing going for him. The only exception to this is Move that Dope, don't bother mentioning Same Damn Time because we all know no one is playing that in 2018.

21 Savage:

Not necessarily my cup of tea, but I can't deny he had some heat on Savage Mode. The first 3 songs on that tape are undeniable. His previous mixtapes before Savage Mode are complete trash, and when 21's production has work from other producers, it's complete trash (take a look at Issa).

Migos:

Before they were fading away from irrelevancy, Metro hit 'em up with the best song of their career. Hell, I'd assume if they just got some lousy beat for Bad 'n Boujee, they would've been irrelevant. Crazy how one song can save a career:

Rae Sremmurd:

While I respect that they have no shame in being watered-down pop-rap, they have nothing that will stick with heads. Not even T'd Up which Metro produced.

Travis:

He only has one song that will be remembered, let's keep it real (Thank you Metro for this beat):

anything released this decade from 2 Chainz / Wayne / Ross / Jeezy / TI has been extremely :trash:

The only rapper from the South who has classic songs without Metro is Playboi Carti. So what does that tell you?

Agree 100%. Great post, alias :troll: I see dumb nerds rushing in already ready to pretend and deflect. :salute:

Mike Will is an interesting one. I'm not sure what to make of his music in terms of lasting value. He has been very consistent in making hits. and the hits of his aren't bad. They're just not that experimental and atmospheric like a Metro. and that's the kinda vibe that tends to last longer.

I've hung out in parts of The South and had the 'hip hop classic' convo with people from The South. My impression is that the average Southern hip hop listener is a casual. They enjoy whatever hip hop is hot and they're cool with it being disposable. They fully expect to be riding the tip of a new nikka next year. Whereas in the East Coast, while your average hip hop listener is a casual, there's a slightly deeper level of involvement. And the East Coast acts pride themselves on being 'that nikka forever' even if it's obvious they're just in it for a quick cheque. These differences in mentality obviously affect how music is approached and who is gonna make something with staying power.

Stopped reading halfway through the Future part. Too bad you wasted all that time not making any significant points.

i know a classic he didn’t do and that’s March Madness :myman:

Mike Will is the best producer out of those you listed but the others haven't made classics.

March Madness is not good.
Future,Migos and Thug all have classic records without Metro.

Maybe Future, but the rest? nah
I agree. London sound is way more diverse

His best beats are metro rip off
