MEXICO CITY — The governor of Mexico's southern state of Oaxaca is condemning the slaying of a local mayor shortly after he took office.

Gov. Alejandro Murat confirmed the killing of Tlaxiaco Mayor Alejandro Aparicio Santiago via his Twitter account Tuesday. He promised a thorough investigation and said a suspect was already in custody.

The state prosecutor's office said in a statement that Aparicio had just been sworn in and was headed to a meeting at city hall when an unknown number of gunmen opened fire at him. He was taken to a hospital, but died there later.

Four other people were wounded in the attack.

Tlaxiaco is the hometown of Yalitza Aparicio, star of the film "Roma." It was not immediately known if she was related to the victim.

If mexico was an African country it would be declared no flight zone, no travel zone and a failed state.

People still vacation there and they kill plenty of tourists yearly :mjlol:

Funny how perception works. If cacs say it's ok it's ok.
Yeah funny how perception works, but what does a Mayor getting gunned down in Oaxca have to do with beach tourism. That'd be like cancelling a Miami trip because of something that happened in Arizona.

But that's exactly how whole travel advisories are drawn up for African countries.. you just making my point :skip:

Any violence anywhere is enough to throw the whole country under travel advisory but in mexico tourists can die and government officially can die and it's still game on. Nobody declaring them unsafe but they really are. Try being a foreign tourist destination country in any other continent and loosing multiple tourists to violence annually and see if you aren't flagged for life as a no fly zone :dead:

It doesn’t have anything to do with it. Dude was just clearly dap fishing on the first page and even threw in some militant language to help his cause
