Report: Jeff Conine will be the Marlins’ next manager

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that former major leaguer Jeff Conine “appears” to be the Marlins’ new manager. An official announcement will be made on Monday.

Conine has served as a special assistant to president of baseball operations Michael Hill. He played for the Florida Marlins between 1993-97 and returned for a second stint in 2003 through ’05. As a Marlin, he hit .290/.358/.455 with 120 home runs and 553 RBI. Conine, a veteran of 17 seasons, finished third in National League Rookie of the Year balloting in 1993.
