whitner is spending his last year in Niners uniform, Im pretty sure.

secondary is comparable to WR in terms of a learning curve, maybe even less of a curve. ideally you want experience but if a guy has good natural instincts he'll get his in man coverage.

I think a point has been made many times on Niners board that the first superbowl win Niners started a rookie tandem of eric wright and ronnie lott.

plus, the CB/S market is pitiful right now. look at this shyt. huff, nnamdi, grimes, CW24 still unemployed.

we needed a WR and despite what harbs said about aj, he isnt ready and may never be. admitting a mistake is never too early and with moss gone and kyle/mario recovering, we needed a decent WR. compared to what mike wallace or harvin got, we are paying boldin peanuts for one year. low risk high reward.
and personally, I think hes a better natural WR in terms of route running and hands than either harvin or wallace, despite perhaps aging.

they couldve franchised goldson, but the FO was respectful and let him get his $. the staff clearly doesnt think hes worth top money and I think theyre very right. before fangios defense and aldon+los, no one wanted goldson

first of all, those names werent a shot or anything...I just thought of guys that either I liked or were rumored to potentially signed with the 49ers...

second of all, boldin is a huge upgrade over moss. moss lost a lot of explosiveness and while I think kaep really needs to learn how to throw fades properly, boldin still possesses what made him a star in the first place...moss doesnt.

third, I dont think any of us claimed every move is gold. that craig dahl signing left all of us scratching our heads....personally I see no reason for his signing whatsoever, even as a backup. aj jenkins was a move I didnt like last year. I wish we couldve kept walker as well but we really dont have much in terms of cap space and titans overpaid for him as far as market value goes...either way you look at it the FO has made far more good moves than bad moves

as far as boldin vs reed goes, boldin only has one year on his contract. reed (as well as cw24) wanted 2...

under harbaugh...goldson, brown, mcdonald, anthony davis, staley, walker, crabtree, alex all elevated their game
justin smith had his finest years under harbaugh as well.

they brought in rogers, whitner, goodwin as cheap FAs and they performed well enough

also under harbaugh...kaep, bruce miller, aldon, boone, bowman all became bona fide starters. hunter and lmj developed well, and while Im not the biggest fan of culliver because of his propensity to get burned deep, hes not the worst corner out there by any means.

Im sorry, but success vs failure is overwhelmingly in haarbaugh/fangio/baalke favor. unless youre trying to pin success on fangio and baalke and claim that harbaugh had no part of, which would be absolutely ridiculous...

Let us not forget how raw Aldon Smith was coming into the league. That was the knock on him that he was physically freakish but very very raw.

I think Harbaugh & co. have done a great job at coaching up the young guys. AJ simply was in a position where there was no room for a rookie.
