I was fully on Mike's side until I watched the film for the 3rd time. Fredo definitely deserved to die. Mike snaked him though. He made Fredo (And Connie) think that they had reconciled. They hugged it out at their mother's funeral, thats fine. But then he lets Fredo fish with Anthony JR. Which implies that Michael built up a fake rapport. That's psychopath shyt :stopitslime:

If you're going to murder the dude then just keep it cold. But he switched up on him. Why?

The cover wasn't for Fredo, Mike was making their MOM think everything was alright.

If she wasn't around Fredo would've been dissappeared the night he ran off in Havana.

That final hug was just Mike saying goodbye to his brother, which is why he nods to Al Neri while doing it. Could even argue it's the last decent thing left in Michael.

Do they kill him right after the funeral? My impression was that Fredo takes Anthony JR fishing, implying that they have some sort of renewed freindship. That shyt seemed funny

Mike gives Neri the confirmation at the funeral.

Fredo had gotten used to being around Mike's kids from the time their mom got sick. Mike even tells his capos at some point that nothing is top happen to Fredo while his mother is alive.

After the funeral all the deaths start happening, Fredo being the last one to get got. The scene starts with him/Mike's son thinking they're going fishing, which is maybe where the confusion comes from.

Not while he was exiled. At this point it feels like splitting hairs though

I think there may have been some sort of renewed bond and that Fredo may have taken Anthony fishing before. Seems like Michael got Fredo to let his guard down a bit with that hug.

But Fredo probably knew what the deal was once Neri got in and just accepted it, with resignation in his voice.

"Are you going to come along with me, in these things I need to do......or no"

Like others said, the nod to Al Neri was the greenlight

They then traumatize Anthony, as his uncle is just disappeared. A real life version of this, in the Arellano Felix family, drug traffickers from Tijuana, one of the brothers, who wasn't Fredo, but was reclusive, scarred from a fire, Eduardo, only marginally involved in the family business.

His daughter was disabled, and his wife became a target for DEA, to attempt to solicit her cooperation, and she was murdered, ordered by his older brothers. Strangled, and disappeared. Internal chatter within the DEA was curious, what explanation would be given to Eduardo, the answer

he never even asked, what happened to his wife.
