“James Harden doesn’t stand a chance to win the MVP,” a college professor on the West Coast proclaimed in his class when I visited his school in 2015, referring to Curry’s closest competitor for the award. “He’s too dark and ‘too black.’ ”

“I thought he was white,” Durant said. “He was this yellow kid, right? I’m just being real now, right? Where I come from, in the hood, we don’t see that. We don’t see the light-skinned guys around. It was all guys like me.”

Light-skinned vs. dark-skinned

Steph Curry was MVP moreso because of his shooting ability, his team making history with 73 wins, and how much he impacts his team. Its always debatable about who is selected because you have other superstars in the NBA who also greatly impacts their teams like LeBron, Durant, Westbrook, George, Wade, etc. Steph is an exceptional shooter and he is good. But him being light skinned does help with his marketability and appeal to Cacs (blacks and other races as well). He comes from a good well off family (it appears), he lived in a good neighborhood, dad was an NBA player, and he seems relatable and non thuggish. He seems like a guy who is Christian and has good family values (cute wife and adorable daughter). Its like the entire package. He may be cocky at times, but bball is a manly sport and sometimes cockiness just comes with the territory.

But anyway....him being light does help with his appeal and marketability...but him being selected as MVP is due to way more than him just being light.

“I mean who cannot notice the media’s clear favorability to Stephen Curry? He’s of fair complexion … and his eyes are a pretty cool color, too.”

"Iverson and Durant’s comments, as well as those on the Internet, nod to a pecking order where lighter-skinned blacks were perched atop the racial hierarchy of rewards."

The Coli told me that white people can't see a difference in skin complexion, and that we're all black to them. The Coli told me that light skinned privilege doesn't exist, and that to acknowledge its existence is divisive....:jbhmm:

This shyt is getting ridiculous.

He makes some good points, but they really have nothing to do with the NBA and are just being projected on it for the sake of generating viewership.

First saying Steph is hated because he is light skin. ridiculous

Now saying he's celebrated because he's light skin. ridiculuos

If he was making playing a high level nobody would care about steph curry, nikka been underrated his whole life, and nobody thought he would be good, he earned his spot. Saying he's paraded around the media because he's light skin is stupid. He puts on electric performances that's not up for debate and that's why he's talked about.

Ain't nothing electric about James harden lets just keep it real. Jordan the blackest nikka in the NBA today and he a owner of a team that won't take pictures with nikkaz lmao.

Saying Steph is a superstar because he's light skin is like a white person saying a dark skin person only as a job because of affirmination action.

It's ridiculous. Steph's family is paraded around because of the way they look. IF he looked like his brother nobody would care about his family and his brother is just as white has he is. Hell, Klay Thompson is mostly white, he got a white man's nose and he almost got white people hair, he looks 100 percent white to me, but he doesn't have the appeal of curry it's just what it is.

Attributing his likability to him being light skin is ignoring all the other factors about him and that is as dumb as saying people hate him because he's light skin.

The comparison is bogus.

If Steph Curry looked the same but was darker he would be treated the same. He has a clean cut look, it has nothing to do with his complexion.

Klay is whiter than him, but he has a nose like a jew, and doesn't have a baby face like steph. It is was what it is.
