I can't believe this is even a conversation. You can barely touch any of these receivers now without them falling down. Lot's of these dudes don't have the balls to play when Mike played and even before that.

Can you imagine some of these dudes running a post route with Ronnie Lott Darren Woodson Jack Tatum ready to decapitate them. Aint no way these soft ass receivers would have the heart for it :mjlol:

It's such a completely different game now than back then. Receiver and QB positions have been pussified to the point that any contact is a flag.

If you watched that cowboys doc you can see Mike get absolutely fukking killed on some routes and not only is there not a flag ref don't even look at the play after it's over.

TYRONE GA!
That speed means absolutely NOTHING once they get cracked by Ronnie Lott or Steve Atwater though.

Cracked like a certain loser coli poster NBA Stan/hater girlfriend

Many guy are freakish today and still not at good as the legends.

THIS. Mike was the Opps, but you respected the Playmaker. He got those tough yards across the middle in the face of getting instant CTE (which he probably got :pachaha: , j/k). One hit from Ronnie, Steve, Chuck Cecil, Andre Waters...man a lot of these cats today (not all) aren't built for that. :mjlol:
And that was just the 80s early 90s. We not even talking the fukkery in the 70s and earlier. Mufukkaz openly clothes lining cats coming across the middle with no flags if that ball came in their vicinity. :russ:

the athletes may be faster and more freakish, but the rules protect not only them but the QBs as well in regards to getting murdered. You had dudes legit on rosters and started whose job it was to decimate anyone going over the middle. The way cats today have to pull up from killing a WR is comical. Fitz and Megatron were the last 2 dudes more recently who went over the middle but they were big dudes and more tight end sizes of yesteryear. Calvin's fingers look like a fukkin jigsaw puzzle nowadays and this nikka nikka openly does weed on the regular now. lol.

Nothing I've seen from Facts Over Feelings about this has talked about DB skill it was about the current receivers and diminishing them. So while everything you said might be true, not what Mike was taking issue witth.

Additionally, when people do these theoreticals it's always the least generous consideration. Like they're transporting Deion from Braves batting practice to the Chicago Bears vs Commanders on Monday. Let Deion experience the same training and drills that some of these modern ones receive and are still bad with.
If Deion had the training and technology these guys have today.... :banderas:

But you were right.

Mike is basically the black Ric Flair w/the profuse sweating and cocaine-fueled rants :bryan:

That damn NBA done rubbed off on my precious football!

A team of college all-stars beat the Packers in '63, it was a bunch of plumbers in the NFL back then :troll:

Mike 100% right on this. Its easy to run fast when nobody can touch you while you are running and they cant hit you until after you catch the football. The term "separate from the football" has pretty much lost all meaning in todays game, and we all knew what that meant back when Irvin played. You caught a pass over the middle and you were looking to hit the ground, YAC meant you were trying to get sawed in half.

Tight ends used to be damn near the same size as offensive tackles; you needed somebody who could absorb a straight up kill shot on 3rd and medium and still move the chains

Speed argument is funny like it’s mandatory to be elite today.

Cooper Kupp at 6’2 ran a 4.6 40.
Puka Nacua at 6’2 ran a 4.57 40.

~4.6 times lighting the modern league up in historical fashion but speed is the end-all, be-all?
Crazy thing is (if we're to beleive Google) Mike ran faster than both of them and those two were going crazy. Those guys from the podcast are bozos.
