I don't think they were asked what kind of thanks they wanted, I think Spike just wanted to thank them separately from people like the officials of the Saudi Arabian government who allowed him to film in Mecca so instead of just "special thanks" they got "Thank Allah". I think he just wanted to separate them as a sign of appreciation for donating when he was completely maxed out on his budget and the studio execs were trying to force him to leave Egypt and wrap up the film. Their donations allowed for the production to continue. Same goes for Arrested Development and Aretha Franklin for their contributions to the soundtrack, just a different special shout out
