Trump was a rich guy who people inspired to be like. A part of Hip Hop culture worships the ultra rich and Trump has been ultra rich since the 80s. Trump's political views weren't known really until Obama was president and even before then he would flip flop (he was pro choice then became pro life, he supported gun control and now is against it, he was a registered democrat, independent, reform party, etc). He was just the "cool" white guy that was in the tabloids because he was always in the news.
This is not to defend Trump whatsoever because it's fukk him and his whole family, but you have to look at the time period.
