Less than one year after being drafted in one of the world’s most prestigious sports league, TMZ called a foul for defensive player Michael Sam.

TMZ Sports reports that Sam “believes he’s not on an NFL roster because he’s openly gay.” “I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year… so I don’t think it had to do with talent.”

The comments allude to Sam’s shocking kiss that millions of viewer saw on ESPN after he received the word that he had been drafted into the league. He wanted us to know that he was an openly, very proud gay man. The selection of Sam made headlines making him the first openly gay player history.

Even President Barak Obama congratulated Sam for taking the risk and leveling the playing field for LGBT community. But, the headlines didn’t last long. Sam’s career with the Rams ended with training camp when he was cut from the team. Sam was then picked up by the Dallas Cowboys for seven weeks before being waived.

He's right though. When is the last time a player of his pedigree hasn't at least been on an NFL practice squad. And its not like he didn't perform pretty well too during the preseason.

At the same time, if he never came out the closet he wouldn't have even been drafted. His performance at the combine wasn't remarkable and his college stats were misleading.

Why would Dallas pick him up and then drop him as well? He got two shots and both teams felt he wasn't a fit, plenty of top ranked college athletes find themselves undrafted and/or not on rosters and out the league.
