@daze23 has the right idea. This isn’t a situation where the studio closed because hifi rush didn’t pan out as they expected. They just happened to be a smaller studio not working on anything at the time.

Now IMO the reason Xbox is suddenly closing studios in general is directly due to spending all that money to buy activision, and the higher ups want that covered sooner rather than later.

+ Games actually increasing in cost to make and taking more time to make (those go hand and hand)

And also gamepass not growing as quickly as they thought it would which also goes hand and hand with the above.


On top of that the economy and industry are both shaky. If Microsoft would have closed the ABK deal in 2022 without it being dragged out I don't think we would be seeing these closures just yet.

From start of 2022 to end of 2023 a ton of things changes with gamers and the industry.

The increase in cost of making games, I think really hurt both Sony and MS.

Nintendo dodged a bullet because of the older hardware and Capcom RE engine has been a lifesaver for them.

But it most likely means what we all originally thought, that its a multiplatform title

What does this even mean though? Arkane Austin were working on the update and DLC for Redfall, Mighty Doom was still getting updates, etc.

What does that mean for studios like Turn 10 that are just updating games they launched already?

It’s not really rationalizations, Microsoft themselves said the reason is they are going to focus on high impact IP, which means they clearly lied about the performance of Hi Fi Rush.

Microsoft themselves have lost the plot and it’s clear the xbox division and Microsoft proper are fighting for messaging behind the scenes. When the head of xbox gaming (Sarah Bond) gets on a huge platform (Bloomberg Business) and looks like a deer in headlights a day after the studios closures its clear there’s more going on behind the scenes.

The Suits not being on the same page at a corporation on the level of Microsoft is ridiculous

They gonna close Ninja Theory a few weeks after they put out the ps5 version of Hellblade 2 100%.

On steam how is a 4 year old ps4 game releasing in 2 days #7 in top sellers while Hellblade 2 releasing in a week is #212.
