In fact, I think the largest game or app on a console that had a social hook to it might have been "Life with PlayStation"

I can't seem to find great footage of it anymore, but this was the theme song for those who used it.

I give it til 2017 til they start talking about "refocusing their efforts" and try to rush to get a jump on next gen :mjlol:

They already did. From a poster on Neogaf

have been making it fairly clear they don't consider their console business to be particularly relevant anymore. When Nadella took over, he said they'd be focusing on Windows, Office, and the cloud, and added that while gaming didn't seem particularly relevant to Microsoft's core interests, it was actually the biggest segment "in a mobile-first world" and he felt they could have an impact there. Note, he said mobile — phones and tablets — not consoles or even computers. Gaming is important to mobile, and mobile is important to MS.

When asked about the sales disparity with the PS4 recently, Phil said it didn't matter because he had users on 360, Bone, and Windows to worry about now. When asked about the recent trend of bringing XBox games to Windows, he basically said even MS can't afford to make exclusives for the Bone anymore, and if it weren't for the Windows versions, these games may not get made at all, so look for most or all of their games to appear on Windows in the future. In fact, I believe he said the only reason games like Halo and Gears aren't sim-launching on Windows is because they didn't realize until development was well underway. He recently told Polygon he's obliterating the distinction between XBox and PC. Everything is Windows now.

And if there was any doubt remaining whether they considered consoles to be significant for them going forward, their recent earnings report made it quite clear that they don't, because they'll no longer be reporting them, at all. Now it's all about Live logins. XBox's primary purpose is luring people on to Microsoft's servers.

XBox doesn't really have a future as a console. Its future is to be the brand name for gaming on Windows; primarily on phones and tablets, to hear Nadella tell it, though I suspect they have Steam in their sights in addition to Apple and Google. Much like the Vita, the Bone is basically a legacy product; a living relic from a time gone by. I actually have to hand it to MS. They've actually been pretty straightforward about their intentions, but have still managed to be subtle enough that many would say the idea that they've moved past consoles is crazy. lol

:ohhh: What do he mean by this? Link to that post/thread?

Yep, Nadella's vision is to have devices can do it all and that's why people were thinking this would be the last traditional console cycle. The idea of consoles is an antiquated model that I have had to go back and forth with people time and time again on this forum. NOTHING has a 5-6 year life cycle anymore and that's a good thing overall. It will become more of a challenge to developers, but developers will adapt and scale. We already see it on the iPhones.

We are seeing the ultimate devices strategy with the new Lumia's (that will become Surface Phone), Surface Book and the Surface Pro line. Nadella is trimming everything down to core devices that have multiple functions. I don't see how the XBOX as a dedicated platform fits into those models at $400 on hardware that will remain static for 5+ years. I have told many who thought I was hating on the xbox, that Mattrick and the team wanted to create a device that competed with both Apple/Roku first AND Sony on the gaming side in one shot and it ended up hurting the product overall.

Something tells me a surface streamer will be coming out soon, especially after they saw what Apple just did with Apple TV. I love my xbox one, but I realize this is just because I use it as my ultimate media box that handles things outside of gaming better than the PS4. It does everything I want it to do and has gaming capabilities as well...Microsoft needs to keep that same approach, release a streamer for about $149 with a optional "XBOX" controller and keep it moving. This will give them more flexibility to release ever 1-2 years to improve on the internals.

Titanfall had more hype than any other game I can remember in recent memory.

I think a big part of that was the fact xbox one was struggling to keep up with ps4 so the xbox fan boys were going into over drive hyping this game as the savior of xbox and the next big thing. As well the media was hyping it like crazy because it was made by old inifinity ward team.

Then it hit and just fizzled out like nothing. Xbox one didnt even outsell ps4 the month it dropped. Game wasnt as good as the hype.

Thats why when people say it flopped its because it was hyped up the be THE game that would change the momentum to xbox for the gen. Yeah it sold 2-3 million and its getting a sequel but it didnt really take off like they really wanted it to.

This commercial was going hard as fukk trying to hype this shyt up and it just disappeared... :mjlol:

Damn.. Xbots were wrong about everything they hype up this Gen.
Accept for the fact that Microsoft stole half they're idea's from the OG Xbox scene modding community including the entire Media centre ideas and functions and renamed it within the OS and the functionality of the Xbox 1 and remodeled it with a new theme ... But who would believe little ole me if I told you Microsoft stole half the ideas from the Xbox mod scene ... (Cough) when Kodi was Xbox Media Center... oh maybe that's why Microsoft backstabbed the diehard fans ... kids wouldn't never understand M$ decent and lies if you haven't been around long. P.S all the Xbox fanboys infomation is incorrect because MS barely even know they're own ideas let alone some internet nutjobs
