TYRONE GA!
There's no L to take. I don't own stock in either company and if I did the "L" would be in owning Sony stock.

Microsoft cagey on Xbox One sales, after 1.2 million shipped in 2014

The latest financial results for Microsoft show a $5.6 billion profit, but there’s still uncertainty on exactly how well the Xbox One is doing.

You know a console isn’t selling quite as well as its manufacturer would like when they start talking about how many they’ve shipped to retailers rather than how many they’ve actually sold to customers. That’s exactly what Sony did with the PlayStation 3, and now Microsoft is playing the same game with the Xbox One.

According to their financial results for first three months of the year the company as a whole made a $5.6 profit and ‘sold in’ 1.2 million Xbox One consoles to retailers, as well as 800,000 Xbox 360s.

From October to December they sold in 3.9 million Xbox Ones, which gives them a total global shipped figure of 5.1 million. What the actual sold figure is remains a mystery, although given the console is clearly not sold out anywhere it’ll be significantly lower than that figure – probably somewhere around 4.3 million.

The frustrating thing is that that’s actually a perfectly good figure for just a few months on the market, even if it is notably below the 7+ million recently announced for the PlayStation 4. (The Wii U is on around 6 million, but after an extra year on sale.)

In the Xbox One’s defence though it still hasn’t been released in Asia or much of Europe, although most of those territories either don’t traditionally buy Xbox consoles (particularly Japan) or are just physically quite small.

What was meant to have a greater impact on the Xbox One’s fortunes was the release of Titanfall in March, although there’s not much evidence yet that it had much of an effect.

But given the lack of details provided by Microsoft it’s hard to make any specific conclusions, and even if they are still behind the PlayStation 4 a few million sales here or there is meaningless in the longer run.
