Microsoft is making its Xbox One Media Remote official today. After details emerged briefly on Amazon last week, today’s expected announcement confirms the Media Remote will be available in early March for Xbox One owners. The Media Remote will allow Xbox One users to navigate, launch, and control media apps, and it will also control TV or AV receiver volume by using the Kinect as an infrared blaster.

Microsoft has built motion-activated backlit buttons into the remote so they illuminate as soon as you pick it up. There’s also a dedicated OneGuide button for the built-in Xbox One TV feature, and channel up and down buttons to control content easily. While Microsoft continues to address early issues with its Kinect voice system for the Xbox One, this Media Remote could help ease some of those frustrations for Xbox One owners who wish to use their console for entertainment and TV. The Xbox One Media Remote will be available in early March worldwide, priced at $24.99.

Gang violence...
finally something for xb1 that i wish was available for ps4. i want a remote, brehs. and the fact that the buttons light up when you move it, that's pretty nice

if they included this in the box instead of the kinnect, i would have been tempted to get one. i still would not get it, but i would have been tempted, LOL

Kinect was supposed to be an alternative to the remote…Now we have a remote that’s an alternative to the Kinect.
People still like to have a remote. Kinect is nice for video conferencing, recognizing users, etc. I don’t care for it for the motion control though.
So Microsoft forces a $199 peripheral down the throats of all XBOX One buyers, but now charges an additional $24.99 for a alternate peripheral that should have just come in the box in the first place. Great.
Less tech savvy people?

Or maybe not all of us want to use the Kinects crappy voice recognition or the remote? :gladbron:
I have a PS3 bluray remote and its great and it controls my TV and receiver. I wouldn’t call that not being tech savvy.
To be honest, I was hoping that the media remote would have a microphone so I wouldn’t have to yell for Kinect to hear me . I also wouldn’t have to tell everyone to be quiet when I use it. :sadbron:
I still want them to allow me to use my headset instead of the Kinect for voice nav. It could even tie the voice input to the person who owns the dashboard/active controller so no one could randomly come in and say “Xbox show my stuff” and have it switch to their profile :mjlol:.
I just found out last night that the DVR Xbox one app upload Studio requires the kinect as well. Fail and Fail :heh:
Microsoft has always been about giving user’s options when it comes to the X1. You can use: SmartGlass on your tablet, desktop, laptop, or phone. You can use the controller. You can use your voice. You can use gestures. Now you can use a remote if you want.

Why are people bytching about choice? Good grief, people are ridiculous.
Options? Where is my option to buy an XB1 with no kinect? :umad:

Why isn't Microsoft listening to the struggles of its peoples :why:
