Microsoft reportedly blocking publishers from charging for Xbox Series X upgrades

Microsoft has reportedly been telling developers and publishers they are not allowed to charge players who wish to upgrade from the Xbox One version of their games to Xbox Series X. According to sources speaking to VideoGamesChronicle, which reports Xbox is encouraging companies to offer free next-gen upgrades, either via its Smart Delivery initiative or their own scheme.

Meanwhile, EA has come up with its own Dual Entitlement scheme, whereby people who purchase Madden NFL 21 on Xbox One or PS4 will receive the corresponding next-gen version for free -- although this has to be claimed before Madden NFL 22 is released.

This is the route 2K Games has taken, positioning the $99.99 bundle of NBA 2K21 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X as the Mamba Forever Edition.

I'm glad somebody is doing something about this. It's ridiculous that if I to buy a next gen system I have to pay more for a game than usual

NBA 2k is 70 bucks and they rejected smart delivery to make sure they can charge you twice.

Infact they even were kind enough to make a 90 Kobe bundled edition that will save you a few bucks

Either charge $70 for the game and stop micro transactions or sell games for $10 and use micro transactions for upgrades.

It's bad for games bc they might starting using the gta game plan. Dlc the hell out of one game for years and release a new version every 6 years. Not all games can accomplish that

Micro transactions are annoying but how many of you are actually buying them to even really be complaining that much about them?
Fortnite is free. Warzone is free. Is 100% appropriate to have those games and their type full of micro transactions....ESPECIALLY when they’re all cosmetic. I think the vast majority of devs know that making “pay to win” micro transactions is suicide. That being the case...it isn’t a big deal in terms of sales and playability. Now if you want to make an argument on how it effects the overall quality of games as art, I would be all ears.

As far as 2k is concerned it killed the game for me bc they force you to play online modes. Making online the only way to get those features isn't fair. Don't force me to play something I don't want to play. The only way to be good online is to buy vc.

This is what I always say to myself when I see videos on YouTube or comments about how scummy devs are and they get on their high horse but they’re not talking to the majority they’re talking to the vocal minority. Developers are making millions off dlc so that means someone is buying...

U don’t have to buy vc to be good. I have yet to play myplayer online but I got over 100k in vc just from playing season mode. U can have a billion dollars if u don’t play the game to increase caps that vc means nothing
