Starting December 2025, Microsoft Teams will automatically track employees' work locations by detecting their connection to office Wi-Fi, a feature that will be off by default but can be enabled by tenant administrators. This update aims to clarify where team members are working, potentially impacting remote work flexibility.

Microsoft Teams is about to deal a heavy blow to those who like to work from home for peace and quiet. In a new feature update rolling out December 2025, the platform will track a worker’s location using the office Wi-Fi, to see whether you’re actually there or not

From a boss’ perspective, this would eliminate any of that confusion as to where your team actually is. But for those people who have found their own sanctuary of peaceful productivity by working from home, consider this a warning that Teams is about to tattle on you.

As per the Microsoft 365 roadmap: "When users connect to their organization's Wi-Fi, Teams will automatically set their work location to reflect the building they are working in." And the location of that worker will apparently update automatically upon connecting.

I don’t really think this changes much. Wouldn’t they know if you’re working from home or not anyway? If you have to use a key swipe to park or get in a building/suite, they can track the usage. Plus if your boss works in the office as well, they’d know if you aren’t there. Unless you’re working for a company/firm where most of the work is done with people in different cities, but then again why would they care if you’re in the office or not when all of your work with them is done remotely?

I swear working for other people is indentured servitude with salary and healthcare

Now you're starting to see. In the current system it is.
People don't realize when the U.S. got off the gold standard for it's monetary system how it affected working.

The dollar has lost 99% of it's value it had during the Nixon administration.

So working for people today for the salary that you are getting is actually worse than people working for companies back before the 70s.
People could buy houses working for the local plant back then.

Today that ain't happening....

I think this is for the employees that swipe their badges and then go home.
