at this point a price drop still won't be enough.

If they drop the price they might as well kiss whatever profits they thought they would get goodbye. Sony PS3 cost $599 at launch cuz of blu-ray. They ate those profits but in the long-run the gamble paid off. M$ would be stupid to drop the price as in the long run it may payoff. Stugglebox indeed.
