I forgot to mention I watched this a while back.
Things I liked:
1. Cinematography/directing was amazing. The bathroom/plane transition was
2. How colorful and (for lack of a better word) cheerful this horror movie was.
3. The death scenes reminded me of "Hannibal". Very creative. Say what you want about Ari Aster but between the suicide scene in this, and the car/pole scene in "Hereditary"....he knows how to film a death scene.
Things I thought were wack:
How unrealistic the reactions were. Two of the main characters just seen two old people stage dive off a cliff....and their first thought is to argue over some stupid ass college paper?
Her boyfriend being told "drink this" with no idea what it was....then being told "it'll lower your inhibitions" (or however it was worded)....and dude is like

and drinks it.
This movie is like if they took a classic horror movie and inserted the worst stereotypical dumb teens from a random 90's slasher flick.
Lastly, and most irritatingly,
nobody even tried to escape. Out of the main characters I mean. The foreign couple did, but they also spazzed out during the cliff scene. So they were already on the chopping block. The rest of the characters were allowed to freely road the compound and never made any effort to bounce. shyt was silly as fukk. I realize "we're stuck in a remote/dangerous area and the car won't start" is a worn out horror movie trope but god damn man....the car was sitting
right there in several scenes.
In closing:
i know it probably seems like I hated it....and I didn't like. But it was different and creative. It gets points for that. But I thought "Hereditary" was 100x better. Regardless, I'm gonna check for everything Ari Aster does because he has a unique vision when it comes to horror.
