This was Aster’s Us. It was a much slower burn than hereditary but the gut punch by the endwaswhere we are juxtaposed into the bear suit
This felt like a psychedelic/psychological version of Hostel
I still can’t decide if I liked this as much as Hereditary, but the trip was better
US was trash lmfao and go ahead and save the “it was too deep for you” response lol

Aster seems to come from the Polanski (
) school of slow burn psychological horror.He takes very traumatic yet terrestrial situations that anyone can go through and turns them upside down and washes you out through a horrific drug trip that makes you wonder how you got there
Horror movie aspect aside, I work with a girl that
is Bi-polar and is just coming to grips with it after we've had some conversations about it. I've had two good friends deal with the whirlwind of being diagnosed and the beginning of this movie gut punched the fukk out of me.
Not to mention,
he surpassed Charlie allergy scene tenfold with the whimsical paganistic dinner/ cliff diving / head clubbing sequence
During the 'insemination' scene I had to temper the heathens in my theater yet again...

I was really enjoying it up to the last 20 minutes. That was like an extended version of the last scene in hereditary. General audiences are going to absolutely despise this movie. He has an eye though. That shot of the car driving was amazing. Some dope edits too. I appreciate him making the movie he wanted to make. Please stop with the naked old people though

Dude. People were laughing and just generally WTF at that part. I gasped when
that old lady put her hands on his ass to help him stroke.
It was a really strange movie. I came away from it mostly wondering what kind of demons Ari is wrestling with. This in many way is so close to Hereditary in terms of the themes with grief, sacrifice, and cult like behaviors. It just feels like he's working something out on screen. But it is a gorgeous movie. The pacing was a little off in places. I think they could have trimmed it a little. I think you're right, mainstream audiences are gonna hate this. I thought it was interesting, even the last 20 minutes. I do wonder
why she was smiling at the end? Does that mean she was completely converted? Is it because she finally found a community that will grieve with her or another family now that hers is gone? I also think it's really messed up how that dude befriended these people for like a year or so just to bring them to his home community to be sacrificed. That's some fukked up shyt.

Pacing fukked up this movie something bad. The editing in hereditary as head and shoulders better. This movie is way too cryptic. They could have done so much more with the premise, but they fukked it up. Also its NOT a funny horror.movie.like people are saying. There are.parts to laugh at but it's definitely not a horror comedy. God they could.have done so much more.
I'mma go ahead and call this the year of disappointments. First True detective season 3 finale, then Game of thrones season 8, then US the movie and now this

Y'all gonna be disappointed, esp with the way critics and Jordan Peele been bigging this up . I spent 12 fukking dollars on a movie ticket! 11 bucks for sour patch kids and a soft drink! nikka they were selling a tall can of Bud light for 8 fukking dollars! 8! nikka they like $1.79 at the store. but I think the movie could have been shorter also a certain event happen in the second act of the movie were it feel like it start to embrace certain horror movie tropes you would not think it would gave how people are hyping it up.
