"Midsommar" Movie From "Hereditary" Director (Discussion Thread)

Seems like half of y'all think Hereditary is trash and the other half think is great. Ima have to check it out. This new flick seems way too long for a horror flick. Homies review didn't sell me on it.

Oh I missed this. I liked it. I wasn’t over the moon about it but it’s a nice horror flick. It’s filled with dread and tension and some unsettling ass imagery. Also something id suggest to watch in a theater rather than at home. But clearly that time has passed lol.

But like most of A24’s horror, I know why it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s a slow burn and when the shyt gets insane in the third act, it gets really insane. Also, A24 doesn’t seem to like putting likable characters in their horror flicks lol. But yeah it’s worth a watch. But if you don’t like the witch, I’d skip it.

If you read up on some of the pagan symbolism stuff in the movie...a lot of it is...misinterpreted at best...

Actually 3 things...plot was awful...and for every plot hole they just tried to explain it with...pagan stuff...and i know horror movies generally have bad plots and people acting stupid but this was beyond the pale...

Hilariously enough...I liked the witch...and one of my initial thoughts after seeing this movie was along the lines of "this is what the witch would have been if the director didn't have any talent"

Interesting. Can’t speak on the first one too much but I will say it’s a movie and a horror movie at that. So it’s not trying to be completely real. Horror movies ask us to buy a lot of bullshyt but as long as the rules are consistent in the world the director creates, I’m cool with it.

And I ain’t looking up the symbols and pagan stuff lol. I’m good. I’ll trust you on them misinterpreting stuff.

It's interesting that it's as divisive here as the reactions in the theater I saw it in which was populated with a lot of...let's let them call themselves "red blooded americans".

The dual layer of real life comedy that I got to witness around me when the Pagan/suicide/sacrifice shyt really started hitting its stride

Hereditary was entertaining but I wouldn't care to watch it again... wasn't "scary" to me at all...the VVitch had me shook af...shyt was on my mind the next 24 hours straight

Thought they could've wrapped up Hereditary up in about 90 mins rather than 2+ hours...I was expecting more after the hype...could have ran more with the satanist cult shyt like Rosemary's Baby did to near perfection with better build up and a better reveal. Instead hereditary opened the satanic box and shocked everyone then the movie was over like 5 mins later...and the build up wasn't as strong imo.

i showed Hereditary to both my sisters, my older sister didn't like it but my younger one did

it was at that point that i knew for sure my younger sister had better taste in horror flicks
