"Midsommar" Movie From "Hereditary" Director (Discussion Thread)

Just seen it Saturday night not even half the theater was full but my girlfriend and I loved it. Just pay attention and you will be able to pick up on at least 80% of the themes and the overall picture that is of course if you can follow the sometimes lazy characters. But only a few points of the movie were like that, I think Hereditary is better because I like horror movies more than creepy, weird ones but it’s still a dope movie. I would like to see the directors cut, I read a few comments that the actual movie fleshes out a few more scenes and what not

Watched it yesterday morning in one of those small ass AMC Dine-In auditoriums. I liked it...watching this in Dolby and 3D would be a helluva sensory experience.

Didn’t have to go to the restroom once during either of my Endgame showings, but had to go twice during this shyt. Y’all don’t even understand the struggle of holding your liquids while waiting for that sex scene (and Christian himself) to finish. Considered using a bottle I had but my head (pause) wouldn’t fit in

I do think Aster is over indulgent to a fault in the last 25 minutes or so, the tension oozes out, and it becomes pure spectacle, which dragged the remaining time out. The last scenes reminded me very much of watching the 'Suspiria" remake last Halloween, a 2 hr plus movie, and the last 30 minutes felt like an hour, just gratuity and asking myself "Why am I watching this"? The creeping sense of mayhem (Ie when Connie and Simon disappear) was far more fun than watching the rituals run off the rails for 30 minutes.

Like you I felt that the last 30 or so minutes of the movie went off the rails and to me it was absolute torture to sit through especially since I wasn't all that enamored with the previous 2 hours I sat through either.

I was enjoying the film, but the sex ritual was when Aster started testing my patience for sure lol. I wasn't shocked or amused by it, was just ready to see the flick wrap up.

this shyt was absolute trash. shows how low the modern film-goer's taste has gone that so many in here are saying they loved it. overly long with no likable characters, no story, idiots acting counter to how people act in real life. just garbage with nothing really to say about anything. the main girl was annoying as fukk and everyone else was either annoying or bland. shyt isn't even horror as there's nothing even remotely scary about it. just a three hour jumbled up mess.

Saw this yesterday and enjoyed it it was a sold-out screening so that added to it.

The film is supposed to swing from creeping dread to laugh out loud funny stuff. Unlike Hereditary where people were laughing at scenes that were not supposed to be funny, this film mined it's sense of humor a lot better.

A lot of uncomfortable couples in that screening saw elements of chats I've had with chicks who have been bushed. Will probably see it again.
