Please read the article in the op

Worth reading. Good find. I'm more in line with the hardliners.

I prefer not raping countries of all their resources then complaining about why they show up at our doorstep looking to see what we did with it.

I agree we shouldn't "rape countries of their resources", but failure to stop doesn't mean we have to open our door to migrants. We should work harder to get our government to stop, though.

I thought so. I've been to/lived a lot of these places.

You should read about push and pull factors with immigration especially American history. It would give you a greater understanding of what's really at work here. Most of the people from the late 1800's to early 1900's are legal now obviously but the same story plays out decade over and over again.

I'm open to suggestions, but it's hard for me to imagine something that could change my position on this. Send a piece or two my way.

I don't support ICE. I support practical and humane immigration laws and reasonable border security.

The abolition of ICE is maybe the only political position I'm not with her on.

I'd recommend reading a book about it honestly. The books I've read usually deal with the American occupation of Hispaniola, pre statehood in the West through Civil Rights and eventually NAFTA. Throughout history you'll see US economic necessity and foreign policy are the catalysts for immigration.

You can't have your cake and it eat it too would sum up the situation. Do some research and buy a few books. There's no reason to be ignorant in this day and age.

Well, what books do you suggest? As for the "you can't have your cake and eat it too" mantra, you can try. And about being ignorant about one topic or another, we all are.

I'd have to look for my notes or if I still have the books. Few IPAs and shots deep tonight. Googling/Amazon would steer you the right direction. It's honestly not a subject/reading people would regularly come across often but it's really important to understanding American history and immigration especially from Latin America. You care about it after all. There are a few books that aren't overly academic. I love history, found it fascinating, and learned things I wasn't aware of.
