I already knew this, but it's nice to see the best basketball analyst on TV acknowledge that any pg who played for d'antoni was destined for success because teams didn't have the personnel to defend that style of play.

How good were his teams without Nash thou

not good, but he did revolutionize the way teams play now. this can't be denied, it's a fact

he is a great coach when he has players that fit his system, and every pg that played for him looked significantly better than they really were.

guys like steph curry or chris paul would have broken the single season assist record and won championships if you put them in a d'antoni system before other teams had a chance to adapt and change their rosters to better defend that style of play

sh*t, even someone like tony parker would have been an mvp playing for the maestro. the spurs used that style of play against the spurs one series and parkers average jumped to 30 and 7 on 52% shooting.

Please these mothafukkas copied aka stole that style of offense off of the original who was John Mclendon. Dude invented the fast break and position less offense. To this day the brother has never gotten his full credit.

:ohhh:

Props, it all makes sense now :salute:

"While many basketball fans look to Mike D’Antoni with awe and admiration for how he’s changed the NBA over the past decade, the simple truth is what D’Antoni’s numerous accomplishments pale in comparison to what McLendon accomplished. McLendon was mentored by Dr. J. Naismith on how the game should be played from baseline-to-baseline and with that knowledge he created revolutionary offensive sets which would see lots of transition baskets and shots within the first eight seconds"

True Naismith mentored him but Mclendon implemented speed, pressing & trapping defense, position less offense and a transition game to basketball. Look at how the heat played with Lebron, how Kentucky plays with the dribble offense, how Rick Petinos teams in Kentucky played with trapping and pressing and how those Arkansas teams in the 90s played. That is all mr. Mclendon.....the inventor of modern day basketball.
