The last thing I do is pander... But it's clear as day that Mayo was a stop gap. "but he sucked"...maybe so, but was that not the expectation given the team is devoid of talent and he's a 1st year coach?

Any objective person could see that he didn't have much support and still did as well as the GOAT coach's final season.

I'll bet you one thing. Vrabel finishes with the same record next year he isn't getting fired.
Facts.

All the "locker room" noise was Patriots PR working hard to create a justifiable narrative so they could dump him with no blowback.

He would have needed 7 to 9 wins to keep his job because they didn't really intend on keeping him. They just wanted to make sure Vrabel had the easiest transition possible. Vrabel can win the same number of games next year but he's not going anywhere because HE'S the guy they actually wanted.

If they were serious, they would have just hired some young hotshot white boy last year.....but they didn't want to sacrifice a young white coach....hire a breh.

First I want to say Vrabel is a good coach and the hire makes sense. But I can’t help but think that when you have a young QB as good as Maye you have to get an offensive mind. Ben Johnson would have been perfect. Vrabel’s last two OC choices in Tennessee were a disaster and Malik Willis has developed more in GB in two months than he did for two years under Vrabel. You cannot approach young QBs with the “do your job” Patriots Way. They need to be developed and molded, not scolded and dismissed.

Second we all should give Aaron Glenn a salute for refusing to participate in the sham coaching interview process the Pats just pulled off. They flew in a couple black guys to cover their asses. That’s it. At what point do teams stop allowing fraudulent coaching searches where the end goal is to just hire a Patriots guy? This didn’t work last season when they hired Mayo. It didn’t work for my squad when we hired a Pats guy who faked a search process just to select his buddy Matt Patricia. Obviously Vrabel is superior to both but this process was a sham.

There is.no more affirmative action.

To create this dynamic legally.
All corporations have been doing rhis since they stopped affirmative action. No affirmative action makes the "rooney" [i believe that is the name without googling] rule obsolete.

Of course the ATL
Yes, but Kraft knew dude was gonna need time to develop into the role.

Especailly if he was "coach in waiting" what the hell were they doing the last few years?

It’s not just about wins/losses. It’s about the ability to manage a roster, establish a culture, work habits, leadership and his capacity to grow in the role. Why do y’all think that it’s supposed to take 3-5 years to see if the coach is cut out for the head coaching role? If a billion dollar franchise isn’t seeing this happen in the building on a daily basis then why would they continue to keep Mayo around?

And as for the pandering point, breh you clearly got a “he’s a black coach so he had no chance” agenda. Just own that that’s your talking point breh, you’re unwilling to talk about the fact that Mayo wasn’t a good coach

Mayo was a placeholder. He was never going to get a real shot. The black experience
If the Patriots were 7-10 with a Rookie QB showing promise with some impressive wins under Mayo's first season, would he be done right now?
