Or maybe feminism as a movement is complex and has several different forms including toxic ones. Feminism as a whole is still needed from teaching consent to encouraging women in poorer parts of the world to achieve financial independence. It's the equivalent of putting Wahhabism as the face of Islam.
Let me preface that this is not an attack, I would like further clarification to what you’ve said.
This argument as a whole seems dismissive of the main points brought up in this thread.
From its earliest origins feminism has been crafted by white women for white women. And specifically black feminism grew exponentially from anti-black entities working for white interests such as the CIA.
This was relatively recent only being around 50 or so years ago.
How can you tell me that feminism is a complex movements when it’s origins are doubly racist? You need to be explicit when you point out the toxic and non-toxic forms of feminism. How can we know for certain that the dominant narratives aren’t still anti-black men, for example, within modern black feminism? Sure a non-toxic deconstructed version may exist in some ambiguous inaccessible academic text somewhere in the world. But is it honest to say that form of feminism exists, although unheard of among most people, is important enough to render it a complex movement?
You appear to diminish the importance of not only the racist origins of feminism, but more specifically to the creation of black feminism. With direct interference from anti-black white actors and agents meant to destroy and disenfranchise black communities.
In the face of extraordinary claims, there needs to be extraordinary evidence. How can you say that the racist origins of black feminism is akin to a fringe movement with your “Wahhabism” example? What evidence do you have to support that claim? Why is it wrong to say that due to its racist origins black feminism is an inherently toxic movement? Are you saying that feminism as a whole, particularly black feminism, has seemingly evolved independently from its racist origins to the point where the evidence presented in this thread reflects an extreme subset of feminism? Because to me it seems as though it is the dominant form. If non-toxic forms exist and are indeed dominant - you need to be explicit and clear.
Consent practices subjective in many cultures - like it or not feminism as it exists today reflects white Europeans standards and culture. And financial independence reflects neoliberalism and capitalism. Your two examples alone can be shown to reflect toxic ideals when deconstructed.
