They actually could sing. That's the fukked up part about the whole thing. They were homeless or some shyt and the label picked them up. They signed the contract and didn't realize that they weren't allowed to sing their own songs until it was too late. They rolled with it cause they got paid and it got them off the street. One of em commited suicide. shyt sucks.

Sad story, labels fukked these dudes as bad as any rapper back then

I never understand why they couldn't just say they lip synced that one performance and keep the lie going

watch her Unsung. She had some hits out there. Studio didn't want her to be the face of anything, but her voice was so crazy they used her for mad hit songs.

it still goes on today, just that the game has changed like with any other industry. Technology makes things faster, cheaper and higher quality...autotune is so much cheaper than uncredited background/session singers :manny:

That's Frank Farian's MO

Take a song that is little known or local, revamp it and all of a sudden it becomes a hit.

Don't believe me? Listen to Ann Pebbles' I can't stand the rain

Now listen to Eruption's version

Farian has been doing this for years.

:ohhh: had no idea Talib's "Sweet Memories" track's DNA is from the same song as Missy ""The Rain".
