Mistaking jokes for disrespect

Idk if this is a character flaw or if I’m standing firm on my name.

I got jammed up at the job, and it’s known I’m living on borrowed time. So, I started only doing what’s required to ride this out

I stopped by my bro’s desk to talk rental properties and he keep going on about what I need to do for the companyand throwing slick shots

It finally got to the point where I had to dip. I don’t need that. It seemed to me like he was writing me off and I was gonna fall off after leaving the company

Ima be straight regardless, but I need people in my corner. Not no sneak dissing

In my experience, when people claim they "just joking " with you, ya really gotta put them in check.
If you let them make fun of you all the time, the lesser they respect you.
But yet, when you call them out, they like " ay, man, just jokes breh "

I feel it... I have moments where I look back and think "damn, I need to just lighten up and learn to laugh at myself" even though in the moment I might've legitimately felt attacked.

It's tough though. Once I feel disrespected or I'm being made a joke, my temper can get out of hand quick. I guess it's a maturity thing, learning how to not let my ego and emotions blow a small situation out of proportion.

We chopping it up and he’s like how’s things going? I tell him I’m chillin, punching the clock etc. Light hearted. I throw in there “Flexing with this shaving profile too” bc I got a beard now.

Breh goes “Flexing?” As if to say my thinking is so juvenile that by me growing a beard bc of a medical condition, I’m gaming the system. That wasn’t where I was going with it but that’s how he interpreted it. Basically he tryna Lil Bro me

And the actuall situation on the job isn’t important. I’m in the military and getting administratively separated, with all my benefits. Va loan, disability and I got some money put up so I’m not trippen
