Where I'm from calling a lady sweetie (short for sweetheart) is a compliment

I didn't take it as him being in character. He said it in a playfully condescending tone that fit in with the light-hearted argument they were having. Beadle knew it and hit him back with "pookie" (another term of endearment) and then he came back with "sugar dumpling". Both Beadle and Miz seemed to be enjoying themselves.

This is not a big deal, but I'm not surprised to see it be treated like one on Twitter or on websites.

On the one hand, Miz is fukking obnoxious. Even his coworkers, many of whom like him, say that about him. I can easily see how he would wear thin.

On the other hand, that was such a small thing that I can't see why you'd blow it up like that. And it doesn't seem like she did, since the article states she was leaving regardless.

At this point, all Miz can do is apologize (which he could have already done in private) and everyone just move on. This does seem like a case where the people watching made a bigger stink than anyone involved. I'm sure Miz will be back on the show and he and Katie will play this up further to get more ratings.
