Mark Henry says his retirement is 'imminent,' names dream opponent

Even since before Mark Henry proved we were all a bunch of puppets during his "retirement speech" over two years ago, fans have been speculating about when the longtime WWE star would call it a career. The answer appears to be that it will be sooner, rather than later. During a recent appearance on the WNS podcast, Henry elaborated on when and how he would prefer to retire:

"I think that I want to go out in dramatic fashion. Win, lose or draw I want to have a retirement match and a lot of guys have done it throughout history and I'm going to go back and kind of see what style of match. Maybe even let the WWE Universe decide what my match will be. I'm not sure yet but it's imminent. It's coming."

When asked about his preference in final opponent, he elaborated:

"Daniel Bryan is one of my favourite wrestlers. As a talent, as an entertainer, the way our fans love and revere him. There's never been a match he and I have been in where it was bad. He is one that I would definitely like to consider. He's been gone a long time dealing with injuries and I know how that feels and I know that somebody like Daniel with his credentials would be really really cool."

That matchup would probably please many fans and certainly Henry and Bryan would do everything they could to make it a memorable match.

You can listen to the full podcast below, which includes Henry elaborating on his career and his upcoming retirement.

(Interview starts around 1:29:00)

dramatic fashion.........

Last man standing match, a simple 1-2-3 wouldn't suffice imo.

Mark and DB had a great feud with Big Show thrown into the mix. Hell, that was the last time Big GOAT was worthy of his nickname. Would love to see Henry and DB go at it again.

I can't believe he lasted this long. I remember when he signed his first contract for 7 years and after a few years the dirt sheets were saying how Vince and company couldn't wait for the contact to expire to let Henry walk. Here we are nearly 15 years later and he's one of their longest tenured wrestlers and one of the most respected in the locker room. He went from a failed signing to one of the go to guys on the roster, gotta give it up for Mark Henry.

For his retirement match they should build him up for at least a good three, four months as a credible threat again, then hold a Battle Royal where the winner faces Henry at a PPV for the right to call himself "The World's Strongest Man". The twist? Mark wins and retires as forever the World's Strongest Man, but shakes hands with his opponent and puts him over on the mic.

His career was saved by the Hart Family.
