I don't even hate Cena i think he's a stand up guy very underrated and booed unjustifiably. But maybe its because people don't buy that Cena is this absolute good guy who should be unbeatable. He's supposed to be Tim Tebow but Hogan did it first and he did it was character and had the ability to move the crowd during the match

Cena does not compare to Hogan as an icon because he came up in the wrong era. If he came up in the 80's he would probably have long hair and be an Ultimate Warrior type due to his physique but he would still be ranked lower than Hogan in the totem pole back then but its hard to quantify without knowing for sure how well he could pull off a promo or character from that era.

The last time there was a true pure baby face character before Cena that that was holding titles was Leg Luger during his lex express days and of course Bret Hart during the same era...after that all the faces have had an edge to them like Austin, Rock, and prior to them Shawn Michaels who was risque and cocky and a bit of a precursor to the attitude era. Even Cena started with an edge with the rapping gimmick and between him and Brock focused on ruthless aggression but they got rid of that and Cena has been some sort of marine with values but he's never been in the military and doesn't convey a focused principle like say Angle or Hogan with training prayers and vitamns or integrity intelligence and i forgot the other I.

There is just something missing with Cena that means he's not conveying something genuine to the crowd they can believe. With Hogan you believed the character could come back from anything and was morally outstanding even though the real person couldn't live up to the character (something Hogan admits himself) and i find it funny that with Cena he's probably a pretty morally clean upstanding person but can't make the fans believe it enough to cheer him for it
