The MVP should go to the best player in the league. How can you be more valuable than the best player in the league? Make it make sense.

Kobe was never really robbed....

LeBron could've won in '08 but that was the "we've never awarded Kobe so let's give it to him" year. Aside from '08, Kobe's case would be '09 or '06, but his team wasn't good enough in '06, and '09 he simply didn't have the best season...

'08 LeBron was arguably the best season that year. Rose and Durant deserved theirs in '11 and '14 especially with Bron coming off b2b MVPs but you could have given it to Bron in those years too. Bron could've won it every year from '08 to '14 and it wouldn't have been wrong...

You could make the argument that Shaq deserved Malone's MVP in '99 or Nash's in '05. But '05 wasn't a year with great candidates, Dirk could've won it too...
LeBron’s team wasn’t good enough in 07-08. That was the Kobe or CP3 year. If the Hornets didn’t lose a pivotal matchup to the Lakers that season and finished finished ahead of the Lakers, that would’ve been CP3’s MVP.

Like someone said earlier, Duncan probably deserved it over Malone in ‘99, but he was in third place behind Alonzo Mourning.

This argument is so trash. We know some stars coast during the season and don't play their best. Even though we know they're the best player, they may not have the best year or have played the best basketball during the regular season.

Shaq didn’t get robbed he put up like 20ppg that year. The desperation for him to get MVP was because of Kobe hate

Idk if Kobe got robbed, at the time we still had the standard of MVPs being on teams with top 3 records. Russ changed it a decade later so it’s unfortunate but Nash’s teams were running thru the league.

nikkas say Kobe never got robbed but also say he shouldn’t have won in 08. So basically yall just wanted him to never win an MVP even tho he was the best player in the league the whole time :mjlol:

08 really bro you’re dragging it now? CP3 and KG both had better arguments for winning it than LeBron. That was the Cavs worst season since LeBron’s 2nd year. You could say he was the best player in the league that year. But a worst record than prior years in a top heavy conference does not win MVP. 06 is a better mention.

That’s why I don’t like using the word robbed. Because in most years you have arguments for more than one winner. There are exceptions where the winner dominated like most years Jordan and LeBron won, 00 Shaq, 86 Bird, 16 Curry, 71 Kareem, 67 Wilt.
I'm interpreting the conversation more so as "deserved" or "could have", rather than "should have" won MVP, or "robbed". So I don't like the phrasing of the question either...
Trash.

So Kobe should be penalized for his gm not being able to get him better teammates? Without Kobe the Lakers come nowhere close of making the playoffs. Kobe literally dragged a team of bums to the playoffs by having one of the greatest scoring seasons in nba history.
NBA Media recently started awarding lower seeds with MVPs with Westbrook and Jokic but this isn't something typical of NBA history, so given the historical standard, '06 Kobe didn't deserve MVP...
Shaq was not even the best player on his team in 05.
I think he was, '06 Wade took that mantle...

There was never a clear cut year Kobe was The League's best player. But whether he was or wasn't doesn't matter, the MVP doesn't just go to the best player. Embiid won it last year and he's never been the best player...

Also I didn't say that he "shouldn't" have won it in '08, I said Bron could've won it...

How is that determined? Everyone’s situation/responsibilities on their teams are different
The same way you do it in every other sport. You’re being obtuse. You decide what it means and you adhere to it. Baseball and football and the NHL don’t have MVP controversies. It’s obvious why. The race is predictable. The NBA is the only sport that feels like everything but the sport itself is worth selling.
