One reason I can’t fully agree with today’s players’ skill level being better is that those kind of high level double clutch layups are almost a lost art (except for Kyrie and a few others). Sure the handles are better and stretch bigs can shoot better also but now we see all the boring ass draw-the-foul flops more instead of creativity in the lane.
You're talking about Michael fukking Jordan though breh, he's the anomaly of all anomalies in sports. The rest of the league wasn't routinely hitting shots like this.

I agree with you, breh.

The game has changed, but clear lanes still exist.

You just don't see that artistic flair.

The 90's :wow:.....I'll let y'all rationalize a reason why "bu bu bu but"..."blase blase"....

I don't see it no more:yeshrug:

I can see what you said but its fukking MJ. Nobody can do what Jordan did.

I don’t even know how dudes can argue.

You still have CP3, Dwayne Wade, Kyrie and Isaiah, even Steph types who are incredibly creative around the rim, but it’s clear that mathematics have become the dominating factor in modern basketball, so now coaches tell their players to dish the ball back out to a perimeter shooter instead of going for lower percentage artistic layups.

They still happen, but less frequently. And because they happen less frequently, players don’t have the same level of artistry because it’s not a skill that’s as consistently practiced.

Meanwhile, Steph’s 3 pointers are more creative than any threes ever shot in nba history, they just look less impressive because he’s not sailing through the air past multiple defenders. Doesn’t make it any less artistic.

We’d say the same thing too if there was no zone and players could make a b-line to the basket once blowing past a defender.

Young guys are just as finesse and poetry in motion today if not more

I don’t know.. there’s no way to quantify this but I feel like the ability to draw fouls is being touted as high bball iq play whereas I see less finesse plays like double clutch layups and finger rolls.

False. The reason you saw it more back then was because the players actually tried to get the shot off and avoid blocks/contact. Today, they play for the contact so they can shoot free throws.
