its a container for a various assortment of video and audio files. Its notoriously used in piracy. Consoles typically don't play that file format.

I was asking out of curiousity would this codec make the xbox onemore easily hackable to play pirated games, that was my line of thought.... jeezus christ.

mkv is used for video and audio...in movies/tv shows brah...it's what these pirates use to share movies/tv shows in full 1080p hd....nothing to do with video games or hacking a console..
