Why do you guys think Puff is randomly in the "Survival of the Fittest" Video? Crazy, Puffy was trying to sign Mobb Deep and Tupac at one time. Poetic Prophets isn't terrible just not as hard as Mobb Deep. Like NaS is much more doper than his 1st name of Kid Wave. Biggie Smalls/Notorious B.I.G. is doper than his 1st rap name, MC Qwest. Of course Tupac's first name was MC New York.

I see but Illmatic is an extreme example, it's hard to consider a situation in which an album that good could be replicated in a different situation.
Biggies two first album had Easy Mo Bee, Finesse, Havoc, Rza, Prem.. I could definitely see a classic album from Nas with those dudes from that era.
He probably couldn't do it on some of the beats like Juicy, Hypnotize and Big Poppa or whatever but if Nas made it known that he was gunning for a 5 mic album Puff probably wouldn't force him.

Two decades later, Billboard caught up with Queens, New York duo Prodigy and Havoc, who shared stories about becoming Mobb Deep and crafting their critically-acclaimed album.

Before Prodigy and Havoc became known as Mobb Deep, the two young friends were known as the Poetical Prophets. During their interview with Billboard, both members explained how Puff Daddy was influential in their name-change.

"I remember the day we came up with that [Mobb Deep] name," Prodigy says. "We were at Def Jam and we were writing [names down] on paper and was like, 'Mobb Deep, that's ill. Hell yeah.'"

"What really made us change it was [that] we were going to do a deal with Puffy at the time," Havoc adds. "He was going to sign us and everything but he said, 'There's only one thing about y'all. Y'all need to change your name.' We ended up not signing at all."

It was a coincidence. Havoc got his name from Tragedy Khadafi but keep spreading , also Havoc isn't from Hempstead. Prodigy is from Hempstead, he lived there until his pre-teen years then he moved to LeFrak, he went to Art & Design High School in Manhattan and started hanging out in Queensbridge when he met Havoc. So yes Prodigy is from Queens.
