Above the fray.
About three years ago I was at work with another brother who was also a former street dude. I was 30, I believe he was 34, and we were talking to a couple young dudes at work (all between 21-26) who had played in the streets...

Some rapper came up and cats were talking about how dude was banking heavy, and homeboy and I were telling them that they market that image of "ruch hood nikkas" to impressionable young people who don't know better. Dudes wanted a debate and me and fam were telling them how most the money they see in these videos either isn't theirs, it's whoever is sponsoring their movement, or it isn't real period, cats are holding money phones of blanks...

People really believe every cat they see is authentic and that every cat who sold something was a baller...

Anyway these young guys had they minds made up, but this video makes me remember that convo. Apparently old girl picking up the blanks is in the same boat as the guys I was talking to a few years back. Only half of what we see and hear in this industry is real, if even that much...
The streets are a lie. Every part of it.

Double that for street centered rap.

It's sad people don't realize entertainment is entertainment and not real life.

I remember I read a while back, Lawrence Fishburn said he had to deal with people who legit were mad at him and would yell shyt at him in public because they thought he really did beat Tina Turner lol. Like people forget these are entertainers. That whole 21 Savage episode should have smarten these people up...

The streets aren't a lie, the problem is the truth about the streets is rarely marketed. Nearly everything is a glamourization which certainly isn't the reality of living that way. Street-centered rap wouldn't be as popular as it is if it was a more transparent depiction of what it's like...
